Tug Boat Island

We took the kids to a local park called Tug Boat Island, which is right next to the Port Neches River. It is probably the most interesting park I have ever seen. Kyler had so much fun running around and exploring. Uncle Jeremy sure got a work out following him on all the stairs and slides. Afterward, we walked over to the river where we watched some boats coming in, and we fed some seagulls. Then Jamie and Jeremy took Kyler to another slide. I call this slide the "death slide".

Thanksgiving Day

I didn't take as many pictures as I had thought, but here are a few. Kennan started walking the day before but refused to put on a show in front of all the extended family. Of course, as soon as they left she started walking around again. Kyler had fun playing around with the car walker and even pretended it was a train (with Aunt Renell as the caboose). It was great having lots of family to help entertain the kids while mom and dad took some time off! Kennan got tuckered out from all the excitement (Exhibit A.. laying flat on the floor!).

Beaumont Fire Museum

While in the Beaumont area for Thanksgiving we took Kyler to the Beaumont Fire Museum, the "largest fire museum in Texas." It was really cool, actually. They had many antique fire trucks from the turn of the century. He was scared a lot of the time for some reason, especially of Smokey the Bear.

Company Picnic

Clearchannel had a company picnic this weekend at the beautiful Don Strange Ranch. It was so amazingly beautiful. I would love to have that piece of property. Note to self, this could be a nice wedding reception location for Kennan one day.

Sweet Vanessa invited the kids to trick or treat at her work place, Medtronic. Kyler got to practice and perfect his trick or treat skills a few hours early. Such a cool building and it was nice to see where Vanessa works. Thanks Vanessa!!!

Kyler really got into it. Jamie took him out around the neighborhood. Poor Kennan was sick with a double ear infection, so I wheeled her along to a few houses but then went home to pass out our candy. And yes, Kennan had several costumes. Since she didn't want to wear her ears, we didn't use the cat tutu costume but for the parade. Here she is using Kyler's costume from last year. People called her Tony the Tiger because they thought she was a boy. Oh well.

Halloween Parade

Our neighborhood had their annual Halloween parade this weekend. Kyler (race car driver wearing Lightening McQueen) enjoyed walking directly behind the fire truck while Kennan (a cat) enjoyed riding in the wagon and eating cookies. She loves to give kisses too.

Hockey Game

Pumpkin Patch

Went to the pumpkin patch today. I am not sure how in the world to get two little kids to look straight in the same picture. I think it is next to impossible. Uncle Mike, Uncle Ray, Aunt Teresa, and Grandma Roth came with us. The kids had fun on the bounce hoses, trains, and hay rides. Kennan especially liked the petting zoo (although you couldn't actually pet the animals because they were in cages).

We had a party at our place celebrating Grandpa Ray's birthday. Raymond and Vanessa made the cake and cupcakes, which were yummy! Kyler had been waiting all day to eat this cake!

Kennan loved her vanilla milkshake. I didn't think she would drink all of hers, but she did! Kyler's favorite flavor of ice cream is "white" so he got vanilla also. Kennan had more than Kyler did! Also, let me just say, I am growing out her bangs and usually have them pulled back in clips. She grabs them and pulls them out! She has really fine hair so they come out easy.

We had a family outing to Boerne today to participate in the Mutt Strutt on Main, a fundraiser for two water wells in Uganda. It involved a parade down Main Street (which was really a walk on the sidewalk) and then they had booths set up for donations and products. Kyler loved the bounce house the best. The kids had fun looking at all the dogs in costumes and it was nice to get out and enjoy the hill country as a family. Ray and Vanessa came too with Mini. Shiloh was so outgoing. I think she felt like it was her birthday or something. She felt special in her fairy princess costume (her wings kept falling off so it turned into a tutu dress). She was going up to everyone and saying hi (dogs and people). It was a side of her I haven't seen! Funny!!

Kennan's New Desk

Grandma Roth bought Kennan a desk of her own to enjoy. She seemed to love climbing up on Kyler's so much. Now she has a Disney Princess desk to go with his Lightening McQueen desk. Thanks grandma! So cute!

Kids in Tub

I snapped some pictures of the kids in the tub the other day. Here are some contrasting pictures from back in February (the ones with the bath seat). Kyler became banned from baths (not from showers )after this recent bath tub experience. As I took Kennan out to dress her, Kyler proceeded to dump as much water as humanly possible out on the floor. The entire bathroom floor was about an inch deep in water.

Hot Day at the Zoo

Kennan had her first day at the zoo. It reached 100 degrees that day. Kennan had to skip her first nap of the day so she was deliriously tired the entire time. We were all wiped when we got home (except Kyler, of course).

Honoring the Firemen on 9/11

My neighbor had the idea to bring cookies down to the local firehouse to show our appreciation on 9/11. This also provided a great teachable moment in how to show appreciation and respect for our firemen and women. We didn't expect them to invite us in and let the kids climb all over (inside and out) the two engines and take us for a spin around the block with the sirens and lights on! It was an amazing treat and Kyler had an absolute blast!

Our neighbors rented a water slide and invited Kyler over to play. He must have gone down 300 times at least. Interestingly, only a couple months ago he wouldn't even go down the kiddie slides at Splashtown. I think he will be ready for next year though!

Kyler Starts Karate!

I signed Kyler up for Karate yesterday and he had his first class today. He was presented with a special certificate and his white belt. I didn't get a picture of him getting his white belt, so I will have to snap more photos later of him with his completed uniform. His instructor told me after class that she hadn't seen someone his age with his focus and ability in a "really long time" and that "he is a natural." I thought he did a pretty good job too for his first day. If anything, he will get use to saying "yes Ma'am and "yes Sir." The focus of the class is on discipline, attention, and respect, which Kyler desperately needs! He even got to use Jon Bongs (the long, stick like weapon) the first day.

My parents hosted a huge party at their house for all the summer birthdays. The Truglios, Hoods, Roths, and Ross families were all there. She is a little more fearful of the water than Kyler was at this age. She usually just wants mom to hold her. She still doesn't want to ride in a baby floating raft. Kyler is doing great going under the water and jumping into the water. He still does not know how to swim but hopefully, he will be able to do so by the end of the summer.

Two grandmas and a gimpy mama (I had foot surgery last week) dove head first into potty training boot camp. We were successful sometimes and failed other times. Hopefully, we brought Kyler one step closer to being potty trained. It is just going a lot slower than we expected.

Circus 2011

This was Kyler's first trip to the circus. It was also Ringling's 200th anniversary! He did a great job sitting for two hours. The show had everything Kyler liked: cars, motorcycles, trains, and tigers! A band member came by and handed Kyler some clown noses that we all tried on. Uncle Mike looks the best I think!

Uncle Ray's Birthday Bash

Ray turned 30 this weekend and we decided to have a party for him to celebrate. We had about 25 people and four dogs. It was mainly made up up relatives but Ray invited a few close friends. We had two briskets, six racks of ribs, two pounds of macaroni salad, five bags of coleslaw and two birthday cakes. Then we had leftovers for two days after that!! Uncle Michael was in town so we went to the San Antonio zoo train and the Kiddie Park. Kyler was so brave and went on this helicopter ride by himself! It went really high into the air. I thought he would freak out, but he stayed cool and smiled the whole time.

She is crawling all over the place and pulling to a standing. She loves to walk around while you hold her hands. She said Dada this month, among other babbles. No teeth yet. Her hair is kind of a weird length right now, but she is a blondie for sure!

Guadalupe River State Park

I love that we live 35/40 minutes from this place! We took a little day trip to the river. It was the perfect level! In the area where we were, it was at max 3.5 feet, so Kyler could just stand up. He had fun throwing rocks. Kennan had fun splashing around and floating with me in the inner tube. We brought a picnic lunch. It was really nice!

I underestimated how much fun Kyler would have in the little baby pool we decided to inflate today. We actually bought this two years ago and never inflated it! He wore himself out running around and splashing (not to mention shooting the squirt gun at mommy and daddy!). These pictures sure capture his devious side! Kennan didn't enjoy the pool very much because it was a little chilly, although she did laugh quite a bit at Kyler's antics.

I gave Kennan her new Lovey, which is a Bunnies by The Bay bunny. I got the "Hare and the Spare" which is a pair for home and travel. I got these for her at FAO Schwartz in Manhattan last year while I was pregnant with her. Hopefully, this will be comparable to Kyler's "Blankie" attachment. Our friends invited us to a birthday party and they had a petting zoo come out. The animals were so cute! Kyler had fun riding the pony and Kennan even enjoyed feeling the baby animals. I think she liked the goat the best.

Last Port Day, Cozumel

Were had originally planned to go snorkeling but we were just too tired by the third day in a row at a port. So, we walked to Senor Frogs and had a drink and relaxed in the water at the restaurant. It was really hot and I am glad I was prepared to swim. It was so clear, it was like swimming in glass. They also had free wi-fi so I took advantage and caught up on email and internet. I couldn't get enough information on the kids, and by this point, Jamie and I missed them very much! Thank you mom (grandma) for emailing me daily and doing such a great job with the kids while we were gone!

Grand Caymen

Next we went to Grand Caymen where we swam with the sting rays and they kissed us and gave us back rubs. Seriously, they train them to pucker up and to wave their fins on your back! I commend the Hoods for being so brave and taking part. Then we went to Rum Point, a gorgeous beach (and the drink prices weren't so nice...$15 for small plastic cup worth of a pina colada!).

Carnival Cruise 2011

We went on a Caribbean cruise with Jamie's parents. The cruise went to Grand Caymen, Jamaica, and Cozumel. My wonderful parents and Uncle Mike took care of the kids at our house. This was our first vacation together without the kids in three years. Yes, three YEARS!!!!! I had visited Jamie on two business trips just for 2-3 days a shot in that time span, but we had not taken an extended vacation together since before the kids were born. We were due. Jamie's parents had not been on vacation in 10 years and this was their first time out of the country and first cruise. I think they really enjoyed themselves. My favorite part was lounging in our room or reading on our balcony. I finally caught up on some much needed sleep and read a whole book. It was not as good as Royal Caribbean in my opinion (food wise and service wise) but it was still nice to get away for a little while. Plus, you can't beat the convenience of leaving out of Galveston. No pesky airline flights to make or hotel layovers.

8 Months with Bear

Kennan is crawling now. She is also eating everything you put in front of her. We give her soft finger foods (bananas, avocados, ripe pears, pasta, sweet potato, tator tots) and then we use the blender to blend up ground meat/hamburgers, chicken. She is so precious and sweet! She is such a happy baby! We are so blessed!

New Van

We joined the mini van club! Last month we bought a 2011 Honda Odyssey. I don't know how I lived without automatic sliding doors and auto tailgate for so long! It may not be the coolest, but man, it is the easiest!!! I love driving now. It was bitter sweet trading over the Impala. That was the car Jamie bought me when we were newly engaged and I was finishing up graduate school. She barely made it to the car lot without breaking down but we got a decent trade for her. A marriage, two kids, and 8 years later, here we are! What vehicle will mark the next life stage? Hmmm...mid life crisis Porche?

Aunt Wendy and the Alamo

Jamie's company had their annual Easter party complete with bunny, egg hunt, and cookies galore. Jamie was in Dallas for work but luckily Uncle Mike was able to come into town to help us out. Kyler did a great job hunting eggs. He made a killing! He wasn't too thrilled with the Easter bunny though, but at least he sat next to him this year! Thank you Grandma Hood for Kennan's adorable bunny outfit. Kennan was passed out by the end and fell asleep in her carrier.

Kyler had a blast playing with the train under the Christmas tree. It pretty much had to be continuously running the entire visit. Poor baby got sick the second to last day of our trip. He had a fever of 102.3, which was the highest he has ever had. We took him to a Kingwood doctor, and he was treated for yet another sinus infection. Sorry Grandma Roth for the puke in the middle of the night!

Italian Night at the Truglio's

Aunt Eileen and Uncle Tony prepared a fabulous Italian meal for us the next day. Oh my gosh, I ate so many calories I can't even believe it! Everything was so good! Kyler had fun examining the Truglio's pet parakeet, Tito. Everyone took turns posing with Kennan..poor baby was probably seeing stars for hours afterward. Well, at least she would have seen stars, but she passed out cold after a few hours.

Christmas Evening at the Roth House

At lunch time we packed up and left Grandma and Grandpa Hood's house and headed to the Roth house to celebrate. We barely fit in the Impala. We found Santa had visited the Roth house also!!! Luckily, Uncle Ray let us utilize his truck to transport gifts back to San Antonio or it would have taken at least one more trip back and forth to Houston! Grandma Roth, Aunt Jeanne, cousin Jeanne Marie, and cousin Jenny are seen here with Kennan. Kyler enjoyed playing with his Thomas the Train travel set from Santa c/o Grandma Roth. Thank you family so much for all the wonderful gifts and love you gave us! Glad we could all be together. We are so very blessed and lucky to have all of you in our lives!

Christmas Morning at the Hoods

We woke up bright and early (as usual) and discovered Santa had visited the Hood house! Kennan had fun with the wrapping paper, bows, and ornaments while Kyler enjoyed playing with his new John Deere tractor! Thanks Santa!

Poor thing cried off and on during the whole program. In the large picture, he is the one just to the left of the American flag on the top row. This was his first time performing in front of a crowd. I think if we had arrived earlier and gave him a chance to acclimate, he would have been fine. We were really rushed that morning and I had to throw him up on the stage right as we walked in the church.

Here is Kennan at three months with the bear. I couldn't choose just a few to post, so I will post a bunch of them. She smiled and laughed this time around. She also seemed to enjoy eating her tutu.

Gingerbread House Decorating

We spent the afternoon decorating a gingerbread house and playing down at the San Antonio Children's Museum. It was really fun and something different to do as a family. Of course, Kyler enjoyed eating the candy more so than sticking it on the house.

Gift Status

I was thinking coal, but the elves have told me Kyler is getting the Cars movie (Aunt Leeza) and Toy Story (Aunt Vanessa). He is also getting the Thomas the Train travel set (Grandma Roth). Aunt Vanessa/Uncle Ray also will be getting Kennan Beauty and the Beast since it is out of the vault this year (so smart to think of this!). I am going to be starting a collection of the Disney Snow globes from the Disney store for Kennan, so if you are wanting to get her a gift, this is an idea. I am not sure which globes are out right now, or if they even have any, but I am most interested in the traditional ones such as Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, etc. We have Snow White. Also, I would love to get her an activity bar for her infant carrier. I don't know why I never thought to get this for Kyler when he was little. It probably would have made car rides a little more bearable.
I will try to update you as we get closer if I hear of any more gifts. Thank you so much!!!!
Some clothing needs for Kennan: 6-9 month 100% cotton footed Pjs (snaps or zipper), and a large wearable blanket/sleeper sac. Kyler needs 2 regular sweat shirts in 4T (pull over, not zippered), and 100% cotton footed zipper pjs in 4T (these are really hard to find). Just make sure you read the label b/c Carter's brand has Polyester PJs that feel like cotton but aren't.
